Poly-Rythmo & Honoré Avolonto (1972)

Honoré Avolonto is a name that always means success. With any band, Black Santiago, Poly-Rythmo or Los Commandos, Avolonto is always surprising as singer or as composer. This record proves it with the exceptional "Setche Weda", inspired by a traditional rhythm of Benin. It is not sung by Honoré Avolonto but Eskill Lohento, the champion of Poly-Rythmo. The other title, "L'affaire n'est pas grave", is a cavacha rhythm composed by Avolonto and sung by Lohento.

Honroré Avolonto est un nom qui veut toujours dire succès. Avec n'importe quel orchestre, Black Santiago, Poly-Rythmo ou Los Commandos, Avolonto est toujours surprenant comme chanteur ou comme auteur. Ce disque le prouve avec l'exceptionnel "Setche Weda", inspiré d'un rythme traditionnel du Bénin. Ce n'est pas Honoré Avolonto qui chante mais Eskill Lohento, le chantre de Poly-Rythmo. SPECIAL POST: Stanislas Tohon & le Tchink System (1979)

This album is a masterpiece. Totally afrobeat taken from traditional tchinkoume rhythm of Benin that Stanislas Tohon wonderfully modernized. Recorded in Côte d'Ivoire and Produced by famous Papa Disco, the orchestration, the arrangements and especially the density of the recording make this record unique. It is also very rare and hard to find.

All the songs are good, there is nothing to throw. The new version of "Yallow", that Sam Fan Thomas made known abroad, is completely successful.

Cet album est un chef d'oeuvre. Totalement afrobeat et imprégné du rythme tchinkoumé béninois que Stanislas Tohon a su merveilleusement moderniser. Produit par le plus grand producteur de l'époque en Afrique de l'Ouest, Papa Disco, l'orchestration, les arrangements et surtout la densité de l'enregistrement en font un disque unique et très difficile à trouver.
Tous les morceaux sont bons, il n'y a rien à jeter. La nouvelle version de "Yallow" (que Sam Fan Thomas a fait connaitre à l'international) est totalement aboutie.

ASSALÉ (Côte d'Ivoire/1980)

Another great album produced and directed by Gilbert Dossou on his Sodogil label. If someone has informations about Assalé who composed and wrote this album I would be grateful. This record is known for the famous afrobeat tune "Ameniwa". Dreadful, dangerous, positive, natural.

Encore un sublime album produit et réalisé par Gilbert Dossou sur son lable Sodogil. Si quelqu'un a des informations sur Assalé qui a écrit et composé cet album, je suis tout ouïe. Ce disque est connu pour le fameux morceau afrobeat "Ameniwa". Redoutable, dangereux, positif, naturel.

Les Volcans (1975)

I found another vinyl of Les Volcans recorded in 1975. "Miwalo" is a great pachanga rhythm composed by Julien Da Costa and sung by Paul Alapini and Adrien Lanmadoucelo. "Kinto" is blues alos comosed by Julien Da Costa and sung by Adrien Lanmandoucelo.

J'ai trouvé un autre vinyle des Volcans, enregistré en 1975. "Miwalo" est un excellent rythme pachenga composé par Juliejn Da Costa et chanté par Paul Alapini et Adrien Lanmadoucelo. "Kinto" est un blues aussi composé par Julien Da Costa et Adrien Lanmadoucelo.

Houlovo

Houlovo and his orchestra of Loukou in central Benin is unknowm to me. I think he recorded this zinli rhythm album during the late 70's. Its originality is to integrate bugle into the orchestra, a symbolic instrument of colonization.

Houlovo et son orchestre de Loukou, dans le centre du Bénin, sont pour moi inconnus. Je pense que cet album de rythme zinli date de la fin des années 70's. Il a pour originalité d'intégrer   dans l'orchestre le clairon, instrument symbolique de la colonisation.

The duo Super Doeths described their sound as “Afro-funk,” but showed a keen interest in the burgeoning hip-hop scene, quoting Whodini’ “Five Minutes of Funk” and namechecking Run-DMC in the “Sucker MCs”-inspired eponymous theme song. Produced by legendary rock guitarist Felix “Feladey” Odey.

Victor Tchakounte dit "Pantalon" (Cameroon/1978)

Rare, unexpected and in excellent condition record. Victor Tchakounte, traditional Cameroonian music singer also called "Pantalon" ("Pants") & Son Groupe de Yaounde recorded thsi album in Benin on Satel label and under artistic direction of Pierre Tchana. I let you discover.

Migan Celestin feat Sagbohan Danialou, Miguelito, Tidiane Kone / 1978

Celestin Migan called Mig-Tino was with Bernard Zoudegnon from Poly-Rythmo one of the best guitarist in Bnenin during the 70s. Member of the Orchestre de la B.C.B. led by Danialou Sagbohan, Celestin naturally recorded this solo album with Sagbohan on drums or other famous artits like Tidiane Kone on saxophone or Miguelito as chorist. You can discover more music from Mig-Tino on this post.

Célestin Migan, dit Mig-Tino, était avec Bernard Zoudegnon du Poly-Rythmo le meilleur guitariste du Bénin durant les années 70s. Certains disent qu'il était le maitre de Zoudegnon. Membre de l'orchestre de la B.C.B dirigé par Danialou Sagbohan, Célestin a naturellement enregistré ces albums solo avec Sagbohan à la batterie mais aussi d'autres grands noms comme Miguelito, au choeur, ou Tdiane Kone, au saxophone. Vous pouvez découvrir plus amplement Célestin Migan en consultant ce courrier.

Jean Bernard Samboué (Burkina-Faso/1978)

Jean Bernard Samboué was part of the golden age of Burkinabese music with Amadou Ballaké, Pierre Sandwidi or Abdoulaye Cissé. This album was recorded in Benin in 1978. The song "Sonimi" is a very nice blues.
